About the tour
An energetic 10-day campervan tour that combines thermal springs, mountains and wine-spa experiences on a total of short day hikes, with selected campsites and day spa options at each stop. The route starts and finishes in Sofia and passes through Sapareva Banya, Rila Monastery/Blagoevgrad, Bansko/Dobrinishte, Devin, Velingrad, Hisarya, Starosel, Troyan and Koprivshtitsa for a balanced adventure between nature, culture and wellness.

Expect a journey that brings back freedom - the morning begins with sunrise over mountain silhouettes, the day ends in warm mineral pools, and in between are the whispers of the pines, the smell of wet asphalt after a rain, and the smiles of strangers in small Bulgarian towns. Every turn reveals a new panorama, every thermal spring is a breath of tranquillity, and every night in the campervan is your own cosy home under the stars.

Adrenaline and relaxation will alternate: short and easy day hikes through Rila, Pirin, Rhodope, Sredna Gora and Balkan, and then - a well-deserved dip in Sapareva Banya, Dobrinishte, Devin, Velingrad, Hisarya and Starosel. You will see the Rila Monastery at sunset, taste wine with mineral water in Starosel and feel the silence of Koprivshtitsa when the cobblestones echo only from your footsteps.

Expect convenience without compromise: select campsites with electricity and water within walking distance of spa areas, clear daily itineraries with „why here“ and „what to do,“ and the flexibility to extend your favorite stops. This tour is made for the moments that are remembered - a photo in the steam over a hot pool, hot tea in the camper after an evening shower, and that total silence when the views leave you speechless.

Program

Day 1Sofia → Sapareva Banya (≈ 90 km / 1.5 h)

Why here: Sapareva Banya is home to the hottest mineral spring on the Balkans (103°C)!

What to do: Visit Aqua Club Kotvata or Geyser Spa Complex - both open year-round and offer outdoor hot mineral pools.

Camping:

 Camping Verila - caravan pitches within walking distance of the mineral pools.

Bonus: A short trip to Rila Mountain for a panoramic view of the snow-capped peaks.

Day 2Sapareva Banya → Rila Monastery → Blagoevgrad (≈ 100 km / 2.5 h)

Why here: Cultural landmark + nearby mineral springs.

What to do: Explore the Rila Monastery, then relax in the mineral baths of Blagoevgrad or in one of the spa hotels.

Camping:

Camping Blagoevgrad - close to the river, quiet location with access to local spas.

Day 3Blagoevgrad → Bansko (≈ 70 km / 1.5 h)

Why here: Mountain resort with many spa hotels open year-round and offering day access.

What to do: Enjoy the thermal pools at Regnum Banya Thermal Spa or Saint George Spa (in the nearby village of Banya).

Camping:

Camping Bansko - fully equipped, near the mineral springs in the village of. Banya.

Day 4Bansko → Dobrinishte (≈ 10 km)

Why here: Dobrinishte is famous for its outdoor mineral pools in the forest.

What to do: Visit Alpha Spa & Pool (open all year round) or Mineral Beach Dobrinishte.

Camping:

Spend the night in Camping Bansko or in the caravan area in Dobrinishte.

Day 5Dobrinishte → Devin (≈ 150 km / 3.5 h)

Why here: Devin is the thermal heart of the Rhodope Mountains.

What to do: Relax at Devin Waterpark & Spa or Hotel Persenk Spa (usually offering day access).

Camping:

Camping Devin - small, by the river; some places have electricity.

Day 6Devin → Velingrad (≈ 90 km / 2 h)

Why here: The spa capital of Bulgaria - over 70 mineral springs.

What to do: Choose between Hotel Infiniti, Kamena Spa Complex or Thermo Spa Hotel Velingrad - all offer daily access to thermal pools.

Camping:

Camping Velingrad - near the Chepino district, next to the spa areas.

Day 7 Velingrad → Hisarya (≈ 120 km / 2.5 h)

Why here: The springs of Hisarya date back to Roman times and are known for their soft and healing water.

What to do: Visit the Augusta Spa Hotel or the Hissar Spa Complex - both have large outdoor hot pools.

Camping:

Camping Hisarya - open all year round, within walking distance from the mineral springs.

Day 8Hisarya → Starosel → Troyan (≈ 130 km / 3 h)

Why here: In Starosel there are wine spas with mineral water - a great combination of wine and relaxation!

What to do: Visit Starosel Wine & Spa Complex (daily passes available). Continue to Troyan to visit the monastery and mountain views.

Camping:

Camping Krajnik (Troyan) - cozy and accessible.

Day 9 Troyan → Koprivshtitsa (≈ 80 km / 2 h)

Why here: Historic mountain town, peaceful in autumn, with cosy houses and saunas.

What to do: Wander around the old town, taste local cuisine.

Camping:

 Camping Koprivshtitsa - quiet place with electricity and water.

Day 10Koprivshtitsa → Sofia (≈ 110 km / 2 h)

Additional stops along the way:

  • Mineral Baths Pchelin (near Kostenets) - small outdoor hot pools.
  • Sapareva Banya (again) - for a last dip before returning to Sofia.
